Inside look - Seymour Distribution

After close to four decades dispatching quality home wares and household goods around New Zealand, Seymour’s knows that seconds and grams really matter. A brand new Spinny S300 semi-automated pallet wrapper is helping them make these savings on the packing line.

Seymour’s manufacture brands such as Cuisine Queen and Kate’s Kitchen here in New Zealand and also distribute other well-known brands like Thermos and Sterilite to major retailers here and in Australia.

‘Just in time’ vendor service is Seymour’s specialty. From their purpose-built hub in Wellington they offer overnight delivery to around 80% of the country. By leaving purchasing decisions until they’re really needed, retailers can increase efficiencies and reduce waste, knowing that Seymour’s will get the product to them when they need it.

As soon as an order hits their system, the dispatch team has to be quick off the mark — including wrapping the pallets.

Operations Team Leader Greg Moore, beset by “multiple mechanical and electronic failures” from an older stretch wrapper, went to the market looking for alternatives. It was the service offered by Universal Packaging that sealed the deal for Greg and his team.

“I went to four companies. All came back with prices within a few hundred dollars of each other,” he says. “Universal were able to answer all my needs pre-quotation, during-quotation and in closing the deal. A wrapper is essentially just a commodity. It’s the service, the assurance of parts close by, the willingness to get it sorted, that’s what makes a big difference.”
