For over three decades we’ve been making sure everything’s tight and right for Kiwi businesses.
Our approach to each task starts and finishes with a dedication to quality service. At Universal we believe in always treating our customers like we would want to be treated.
It’s a non-negotiable, every-day-in-every-way standard that delivers clarity of purpose to our work and peace of mind to our customers.
Founded by Neville Goddin in 1985, Universal was originally started as a contract packing company servicing the chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. In 1988 we diversified into specialty containers, closures and primary packaging for these industries and, for close to two decades, worked our hardest to meet the ever-changing demands for product packaging.
In 2007 this all changed with the progression into our current business focus. The move was not taken lightly – there were plenty of discussions behind closed doors on the merits of sticking with what we knew compared with developing new expertise. New Zealand businesses were crying out for better, faster, more effective load containment. It was a need that could not be ignored.
So we began to focus solely on end of line packaging, specialising in pallet load containment products and machinery.
On a roll.
In 2009 we became the sole New Zealand distributor for Wulftec International’s range of pallet wrapping and strapping machinery. In 2011 we added the SPINNY range of pallet wrapping machinery to our stable, becoming exclusive New Zealand distributors for this technology also.
Our ever-increasing expertise helped introduce new features and equipment to the market, as was the case in 2013 when we undertook Australasia’s first ever installation of dual floor-mounted rotary arm Wulftec stretch wrappers
We’ve also stayed on the cutting edge of product development. In 2010 we launched ClearWrap, our premium, high performance, cast stretch film proving to be immediately popular. In 2012 SmartWrap was launched. This innovative range of low gauge, hand stretch wrap was an industry first for the New Zealand market.
A clear difference.
When first starting in load containment we quickly discovered that stretch wrapping was all too often undervalued by Kiwi businesses. It may often be clear – but that doesn’t make it invisible.
When done right stretch wrapping not only ensures goods arrive in the best condition, it also saves money by minimising damage costs and maximising process efficiency.
That’s why we take a broad view of your operation, to see where we can save you time and money along your pallet wrapping process. It’s also why in recent times we have also developed two key service programmes.
Our SCOPE programme provides a thorough assessment and refinement of both their packaging processes along with a wider logistical operational overview. The PACT system keeps a close eye on inventory while ensuring machines are efficiently wrapping pallets each and every time.
Since we first opened our doors in 1985 our team has worked with New Zealand companies from Kaitaia to the Bluff. Be it light or heavy, tissue paper to concrete blocks, if it’s dispatched on a daily basis the chances are that we’ve helped to wrap it.
This experience is vital. Pallet wrap, shrink wrap or stretch film, you can call it what you want. But when you need to get the most from product and processes, from how and where it’s wrapped to the security, efficiency and cost effectiveness, call us first.

What Our Customers Say
I have modified that parameter which has increased the carriage speed and reduced the total cycle time by half a minute, so definitely a good result. Thanks for your help with this.
You guys are great, fantastic service, next day delivery always. The Customer Service team seems to know who we are each time we ring up.
We have been testing different stretch wrap in the past and found that Universal Packaging supplies really great quality product. We wrap pallets tight and keeping them stable is very important. From great consistency in the stretch wrap to fast and responsive service, I highly recommend Universal Packaging to supply you with your wrapping requirements.
Our new stretch wrapper is performing very well. It’s amazing how well it works, we are getting a far better yield from our wrap and with the new automatic option the time to wrap each pallet has been reduced dramatically.
Universal has super service and we like the quality of the product because it helps us with production efficiencies.
Universal Packaging has been supplying us with all of our stretch wrapping consumables for the last 4 years. Our experience in working with Universal Packaging is a very positive one. We have found them to be very pleasant in their approach and value the professional business relationship we have grown over those years.
Universal Packaging’s film is excellent because the film clings to itself very well which means we don’t get tails or film unwinding off the pallet which had been an ongoing issue until now. This is very important for wrapping pallets in our dusty environment.
Today I made the decision to place an order for another pallet of stretch film from Universal Packaging after buying from another supplier for the last couple of months. The reason is very simple – we had some supply issues with the other supplier. With Universal, we can absolutely trust their service, delivery and back-up and their price is still competitive, so we’re back. All the best for you and your team – we really appreciate our partnership.
